How It Works

During a dermaplaning treatment, Stacie uses a sterile surgical scalpel held at a precise angle to gently shave across the surface of the skin. The motion removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells along with the fine vellus hair that sits on top of them.

The treatment is painless. Most clients describe it as a light, feathery scraping sensation, nothing more. There are no chemicals, no heat, and nothing entering the skin. It's a purely physical exfoliation that leaves behind a visibly smoother, cleaner surface.

One question we hear often: will the hair grow back thicker? No. Vellus hair has no pigment and no coarse structure. Removing it doesn't change how it grows back

What to Expect

Before your appointment: Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and exfoliating acids for at least 3–5 days before your session. Come in with clean, product-free skin if possible.

During your appointment: We start with a gentle cleanse, then move into the dermaplaning treatment itself. Depending on your service, we follow with enzyme exfoliation, targeted serums, or a finishing mask. You'll leave with a moisturizer and SPF applied.

After your appointment: Your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure for the first 24–48 hours. Wear sunscreen daily, skip harsh exfoliants for a few days, and avoid heavy makeup for at least 24 hours. You may notice a mild pinkness that fades within a few hours.

Results typically last 3–4 weeks, which is why most of our Scottsdale clients come in monthly to stay consistent.

Who's a Good Candidate (and Who Should Wait)

Dermaplaning works well for most skin types, including dry skin, mature skin, and clients with surface texture concerns or uneven tone from sun damage.

You may need to wait if you have:

• Active acne breakouts or inflamed skin
• Rosacea or highly reactive, sensitized skin
• Eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
• Recently used Accutane (within the last 6 months)

Is it painful?

Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?

No. Vellus hair has a different structure than terminal hair. Removing it has no effect on how it grows back.

Can I wear makeup right after?

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours. Your skin has just been freshly exfoliated, and heavy products can clog pores that are now more open.

Is dermaplaning safe for sensitive skin?

Generally yes, as long as there's no active irritation, inflammation, or open skin. We assess skin condition before every treatment.

How is dermaplaning different from shaving?

Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical blade held at a specific angle and technique designed for facial skin. It removes both dead skin cells and vellus hair with precision. Shaving only addresses hair at the surface and doesn't provide the same exfoliation benefit.

Can I combine dermaplaning with other treatments?
